Yo sé que algunos en éste portal van a apreciar el efecto mutliplicador de estas dos noticias, que me parecen fundamental compartir. En el transcurso de los útlimos días, el mundo, tal y como lo conocemos, cambió con el (lento) despertar de un gigante que se negaba (hasta hoy) aceptar el irrefutable consenso científico mundial, y que de pasada confirma aún más laurgencia de nuestras acciones.. Ahora a esperar la cascada multiplicadora de efectos. (lo cuál no siginfica que dejemos de trabajar, sólo que el total siempre es más que las partes).

US Dept of Energy office supports Peak Oil theory

An office of the US Department of Energy addresses – and supports – Peak Oil research in this unusually frank document entitled Strategic Significance of America’s Oil Shale Resource.
Produced by the DoE’s Office of Naval Petroleum and Oil Shale Reserves, it disregards the overly optimistic oil production projections of the DoE’s own Energy Information Administration.
It references instead the research of Colin Campbell, Jean Laherrère,
Kenneth Deffeyes, Matthew Simmons and other so called ‘pessimists’ in one of the first serious official documents supporting the thesis of an imminent oil peak. (In fact a later version of one figure included in the report was first published here on EnergyBulletin.net

High Court Tells EPA to Consider Global Warming Steps (Update5)

April 2 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. Supreme Court ordered Bush administration environmental officials to reconsider their refusal to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions, giving a boost to advocates of stronger action against global warming.
The justices, voting 5-4, today said the Environmental
Protection Agency didn’t follow the requirements of the Clean Air Act
in 2003 when it opted not to order cuts in carbon emissions from new
cars and trucks.
`EPA has offered no reasoned explanation for its refusal to decide
whether greenhouse gases cause or contribute to climate change,”
Justice John Paul Stevens wrote for the majority.

así, estar presenciando el inicio del fin de una política
institucionalizada de la ceguera y arrogancia del país más influyente
del mundo moderno. Ahora
a recordar que nos quedan sólo 20 años para revertir la curva de
aumento de emisiones de CO2 antes que toque las 500 ppm, despúes de lo
cuál, mejor el último apaga la luz
… es hora de abrir los ojos. Ya perdimos la oportunidad de ser proactivos, pero todavía podemos reaccionar.
